Discobolus Glittomyces, Aka: Disco Fungus is a newly discovered fungal species that grows wherever queerness and joy collide. Presented as a scientific taxonomy complete with specimen cards, Latin nomenclature, and habitat documentation, the project transforms disco balls, glitter, and rhinestones into sculptural "specimens" that capture and multiply light—physical manifestations of celebration itself.

At its core, this work is about joy. Not resilience, not struggle, not survival—just pure, unapologetic joy. The kind that exists on dance floors at 3am, in living rooms, during kitchen dance parties, in bathroom mirrors before going out, at house parties that spill onto rooftops, in karaoke bars, on late-night metro rides home, in parking lots after the club closes…

Discobolus Glittomyces thrives wherever queerness exists, which is to say: everywhere.

By framing these sculptures as naturally occurring phenomena rather than art objects, the pieces imply that queer joy is something we discover, cultivate, and document, a natural phenomena that was always already there.

Discobolus Glittomyces proposes that queer joy is ubiquitous, self-replicating, and unstoppable. It grows in nightclubs and living rooms, at festivals and farmhouses. The taxonomy is both playful and precise, treating joy as something observable, documentable, essential. This fungus doesn't need permission to exist. It simply does—sparkling, cascading, mirroring and multiplying joy wherever it takes root.

Because queerness exists everywhere. And so does our joy.
